When I Spawn My Game Continues to Spectate Overwatch
Initially released in July 2017, Fortnite didn't take off until about eight months later, when it became the most viewed game on Twitch, overshadowing League of Legends. Even so, not everyone has played Fortnite. Some non-gamers may not know what it's about even — but chances are they've at least heard of Fortnite. Here, we'll discuss all the basics, from what Fortnite is to how long the game takes to play. And we'll answer a looming question: Is Fortnite the most popular game worldwide in 2022?
What Is Fortnite?
Fortnite is a battle royale style experience. In it, players are dropped into a map, either on their own in a free-for-all or alongside teammates. The goal is to be the last player standing. To do so, you'll pick up as many items and weapons as possible, all while heading toward the center of the map. Fortnite also allows your character to build forts and set traps, which come in handy during a match.
As mentioned above, Fortnite is a battle royale game. This genre generally combines the online multiplayer aspect with last-person-standing gameplay. Often, a battle royale game requires you to explore, scavenge, search and survive the traps and attacks of other players.
Fortnite also has seasons, which last 90 days and bring about new features, maps and themes. One recent theme brought Marvel characters back to Fortnite, with X-Men's Wolverine being one of the trickier characters to unlock.
How Long Does It Take to Play Fortnite?
The length of each game depends on a few factors, namely how well you play against your opponents and how your survival skills compare to theirs. To complete the game's objectives, you'll need to keep moving, all while knowing when to stay still to avoid detection. In addition to attacking opposing players, you'll also have to build and set traps. Depending upon your skill (and the skill of your competitors), a Fortnite match can last anywhere between two minutes and an hour.
Is Fortnite a Good Game?
Yes, Fortnite is a good game, all things considered. It is beloved by critics, gamers and esports players alike. Some issues do detract from the experience; there are a few issues with the game's combat mechanics and audio chat feature, for example. Some players don't like the game's microtransactions, which require you to spend more money to acquire more items, themes or features.
On the plus side, Fortnite is a free-to-play game with multiple game modes, engaging gameplay and fun characters and themes. While anyone can pick it up and play, not everyone is drawn to battle royale games. Still, with 400 million players worldwide in 2021, the Fortnite game is clearly worth trying.
Is Fortnite the Most Popular Game?
As of December 2021, Fortnite claimed the top spot as the most popular game worldwide, beating out popular series like Grand Theft Auto and Minecraft. Considering those 400 million accounts, that's not so surprising.
As of 2022, Fortnite has about 80.4 million active users and 4 million concurrent daily players. The game is also a popular esport, meaning it's played competitively by professional gamers for the entertainment of audiences.
How To Fix the Fortnite Game Chat
One issue many players have encountered impacts Fortnite's in-game chat feature. You can potentially resolve the audio issue in a few ways. Turning up your voice chat volume, adjusting your parental control settings, making sure you have the correct ports open, and checking your DNS settings are all good ideas. Sometimes the issue isn't on the player's end, though, so it's also a good idea to check the Epic Games' server status page to verify if there's a general Fortnite outage.
