The second of our trio of new Expanding Fronts civilizations is ready to reveal! The mighty New Republic joins the fight in Expanding Fronts 1.5, bringing with them devastating airpower backed by the Knights and Masters of the New Jedi Order.

While the story elements of the New Republic were pulled in fewer directions than that of the Imperial Remnant, it was no less of a challenge to design them as a faction for Battlegrounds. Sandwiched between the Rebel Alliance, Resistance, Naboo, and Republic, coming up with traits that made them a strong Air/Jedi civilization, while still being mechanically distinct from the factions that came before proved quite difficult. In the end, we feel that we've settled on a promising set of unique elements that will allow New Republic players to shake up the battlefield in a variety of ways.

CIVILIZATION OVERVIEW - NEW REPUBLIC

Established shortly after the defeat of the Galactic Empire at Endor, the New Republic sought to become a continuation of the ways of the Old Republic. Despite their struggles in the early years of their new government, more and more systems would reject the control of the scattered Imperial warlords and rally under the New Republic banner.

The New Republic is an aerial powerhouse, with units that specialize in engaging ground targets. K-Wings fill the role of Attacker for the New Republic and feature a significantly increased rate of fire over the Attackers of other civilizations. Further complementing this firepower is their Unique Unit, the V-Wing Airspeeder, which can bring ruin to undefended ground armies in moments with a devastating barrage of cluster missiles.

Note: The mechanics of these new factions are still a work in progress, and may change in accordance with testing. As such, this overview may not be representative of the final release.

Air and Jedi civilization

CIV TRAITS:

  • Attackers fire 25% faster
  • Resource Processing Centers cost 25% less to construct
  • All Jedi Temple Technologies cost 30% less Nova Crystals to research
  • Monument and Holocron victories require 25 fewer days to achieve
  • Fortresses have a secondary attack that reduces target speed, in addition to inflicting bleed damage over time.
  • (Team) Temples do not cost Nova Crystals to construct

UNIQUE UNIT:

NR VWing V-Wing Airspeeder - (Fortress) The V-Wing is a f ast air unit that uses cluster missiles to damage groups of enemies. Each attack fires multiple projectiles that cause damage across a wide area. V-Wings are very effective against most land and sea units but are weak to other air units.

UNIQUE TECHS:

NR Tech NJO New Jedi Order - (Jedi Temple) Jedi Masters can convert buildings at normal conversion range (Requires Concentration to be researched first)

NR Tech Scramjet Scramjets - (Fortress) V-Wings gain +15% speed

NR Tech NCMP Modernization Program - (Airbase) Military air units gain +10% HP

NR Tech Veterancy Veterancy - (Troop Center) Troop Center units cost -20% to train
